My Initial Ideas

My Initial ideas for the music magazine i am going to produce:
- Metalcore/Alternative/Post-Hardcore Genre specific Music magazine.
- Messy Kerrang!/Rock sound style look to it. e.g

- Different style colour scheme (i.e Not mainstream Black/white, boring colours etc.)
- Reviews, Interviews, Gigs, New bands etc.

There are many styles of music that some people love, and some people hate. For example, The people defined as "Chavs" generally (stereotypically) listen to Drum 'n' bass and Hip hop. I as a person, listen to all sorts of music, such as R'nB and dance music Via Kiss Radio, Chart music such as Girls aloud, Take that etc. However, my favourite style of music would have to be Rock/Metal/Metalcore/Post-Hardcore and Alternative, and that is what i wish to style my magazine around. Its quite a select audience considering some bands are un heard of to the different "Clicks" and "Social Groups", Such as The Devil wears Prada, August Burns Red, Bring Me The Horizon, A Day To Remember etc.
Magazines similar to the one i want to produce are magazines such as Kerrang! and RockSound.

I Like the style of the two magazines because they are not too formal, and they are certainly not boring magazines to read.
Another magazine called Front, is a also great magazine to read because of its informal style and i think that its a great success as its readers don't just want to sit and read, they want to be entertained too, and thats an important factor for all three of the magazines.

This is Front magazines double page spread of the December 2009 issue >>>

You can see by the way the images are layed out on the page that its quite an informal layout, and the pictures also look untidy around the edges, like they have been cut out by a school child.

Another double page spread by front focussing on a gig that they got exclusive photos from (Enter Shikari: Common Dread's Tour) <<<
You can tell by the two double page spreads that they have a set house style with colour (yellows, red, blacks, whites, blues etc.), and an untidy/messy presentation, that makes the page look alot better in my opinion. The whole layout makes the page interesting to look at, and that is what i aim to create with my magazine.

  1. OK so far although you are missing a Flickr analysis of a college magazine but I wouldn't worry about that now, best to focus on the main task.

You now need to moveon to doing an analysis of a cover which is like the one you would like to design using Flickr and the Textual Analysis Checklist I issued yesterday.
